WALHI together with the International Relations Department of FISIP UNDIP organized the activity to highlight that the construction of a local waste-to-energy facility does not offer a long-term solution for waste management in the community and failed to demonstrate success in terms of its promise to generate renewable energy.
Capacity Building Session for CSOs on Engaging with the Asian Development Bank’s Safeguards Policies – 101 on false solutions
Around 50 campaigners and communities in the Philippines came together for a workshop organized by GAIA Asia Pacific, Freedom from Debt Coalition, and NGO Forum on ADB, focusing on empowering them to combat false solutions proposed by IFIs on climate change, including waste-to-energy (WtE) incineration, biomass, refuse-derived fuel, ammonia co-firing, gas, among others. Aside from GAIA social media posting, FDC also widely shared the activity on their channels, as well the NGO Forum on the ADB.

War-on-Waste BFFP Negros together with the Zero Youth Negros and different organizations in Silliman University (Silliman University Student Government’s Environment Committee, Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences, the School of Public Affairs and Governance, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Dr. Mariano C. Lao ICI Technology Laboratory, the College of Business Administrations), organized a lecture / academic sharing on Zero Waste solutions directly countering false solutions on the waste and plastic crisis. The forum featured former BFFP-staff and now SU Visiting Researcher and Australian National University PhD Candidate in Resources, Environment and Development, Joseph Edward Alegado, MA, MPM.
